Deb Evans

Enrolled Agent * Certified Financial & Business Coach

I’m not your Typical Tax Nerd!

I’d say I’m more of a Geek, truth be told.

Hey y’all! I’m Deb Evans.

  • Happy to meet you! I’m a Multipreneur with two active businesses: Deb Evans Tax Company and Deb Evans Tutoring, plus a fun side gig writing children’s books! I never understood why people said I had to pick just one thing to be when I grew up!

  • I’m obsessed with dogs (all animals really), can you tell? ;). My favorite travel experience was a photosafari in Kenya after college. I also founded a nonprofit dog rescue in 2021. I’m kind of obsessed with photography too. I was a professional photographer for over 20 years. Photography + Dogs? Yes, please. I LOVE photographing dogs and the people who love them.

  • I love words and language. I collect journals and notebooks, most of which I never touch because I don’t want to “mess them up.” Give me a scrap of paper, though. I’m never bored if there’s something to read nearby. I’m fascinated by Shakespeare and love 19th century gothic literature, especially Edgar Allen Poe.

  • I have written and published two books on taxes and money, and I’m working on the next two books for 2024 publication. I’ve also written and published five children’s books! For more on that, visit www.debevansauthor.com

  • I’m a super-introverted, neurodiverse geek who always tries to find the bright side.

  • I LOVE learning about what makes people tick and take every personality quiz I find. I’m an ISFP-T. My Enneagram is 5w4. My Sacred Brand Archetype is Explorer/Sage, and my Sacred Money Archetype is Romantic. (I’m a Coach for those last two if you’re curious!) Oh, and I’m a Libra.

  • I binge watch tv and love to read on my downtime. I love sci fi, fantasy, and mysteries.

  • I love learning. I can’t get enough, really. I’m interested in all sorts of subjects. I am intrigued by the brain and neurodiversity and even have a Brain Health Coach Certification from Amen University. Just because. A lot of my financial and business coaching focuses on mindset issues. If you can get your brain on board, the rest is easy.

  • I have a BS from UT Austin, my Enrolled Agent (federal tax) license from the Treasury Department, and Financial Coach Certification through both the Financial Coach Academy and Ramsey Solutions.

  • I live in Cypress, Texas with my husband of 30+ years, Mike, whom I adore, our three dogs, and a cat. We are Empty-Nesters, parents to two grown daughters out there living their best lives. When our girls were growing up, we homeschooled and lived out in the country with horses. We’ve been back in the suburbs for over ten years, and I still miss having horses!

  • I am a history buff, active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, including teaching our chapter’s annual Constitution Day Program since 2015. I volunteer with many other non profits and co-founded a nonprofit dog rescue in Houston in 2021.

  • I love Jesus, my family, friends, AND my clients. I believe there’s room for everyone to succeed, and I love helping to make that happen.

  • There’s an emotional freedom that comes with getting older (I’m in my 50’s), and I embrace that. So, if you’re looking for a serious, strictly-business, button-down type, then you should probably keep looking. I have a pretty light-hearted approach to life and to business.

So what about the whole tax and finance thing?

Back in 2011, I decided I needed something new to add to my life, hehe, so I learned all about taxes and joined my mother’s tax practice. She called me her Retirement Plan. She retired in 2020 after a 50 year career! I was trained by the best! I was licensed as an Enrolled Agent (EA) , a federally-licensed tax pro, in 2012 after passing a series of 3 complex tests on individual and business tax law. Then I worked to become a Certified Financial Coach. I know what I’m doing, and I’m pretty good at it. I’ve been self-employed in different fields my entire career, so I understand the needs of my fellow sole proprietors and other small business owners.

Clients are sometimes surprised to find out, though, that I’m not a math nerd. As I said, I prefer letters to numbers.

Of course, that’s why I take dozens of hours of Continuing Education every year and spend a lot of money each year on the best professional tax software to do the actual number-crunching. But any software is only as good as the data that goes into it. And that’s where the words behind the numbers are crucial: understanding and interpreting continually changing tax law, creating financial strategies to save taxes, building businesses, and growing wealth.

I’m a teacher at heart and tell my clients “I will teach you as much or as little as you want to know…” Some clients want to learn everything. Some clients just want to understand enough to be able to honestly sign their tax returns. Some want to learn how to DIY everything. Others want to leave it to a pro. And that’s okay.

BOTTOM LINE? I’M NOT A BUTTON-DOWN, CORPORATE TYPE. I’M A “LET’S SIT ON THE COUCH, DRINK COFFEE, AND TALK” TYPE. IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A FRIENDLY ALLY WHO TAKES HER WORK SERIOUSLY BUT HERSELF NOT-SO-MUCH, THEN MAYBE WE SHOULD CHAT. AND IF DOGS OR BOOKS COME INTO THE CONVERSATION AT SOME POINT, THEN THAT’S JUST A BONUS!
